Seadoo Manuals 1998 Gtx Rfi

Well I went to the lake a few weeks ago and could only hit 10 mph with about 3,000 RPM but reach easily 5,000 to 6,000 with a hose connected. I do realize out of the water the ski does not have a load on it so it makes it a little tricky to troubleshoot. I decided it was the fuel injectors since a friend had attempted to clean them but said they would not come clean after years of sitting. So this weekend I was listening to my engine and it sounds like I am losing compression. So I checked my spark plugs thinking maybe they were not on tight but they were. I also went ahead and checked to see if they spark or were fouled.

The plugs worked as they were supposed to. Next I decided to check my rave valves on my engine and they were covered in gunky old oil. So I cleaned the valves and still had the same RPM issue. I have come to believe I am losing compression in at least one of my cylinders based on the sound it is making. The sound in like a puff of air being forced out. Does any one know what is the best top end rebuild kit on the market and I would perfer buying an American made kit if possible?

Also I would like to find a company that sells some of the best 787 rfi engines so I can have an extra will I rebuild? Thanks for any help or other ideas on the current situation. Rotor13B I actually did that at the lake yesterday when I changed out the plugs and check to see if they spark. Thank you though cause that is a thing most people would have overlooked. The only reason I believed it to be compression issues is the sound and the fact there is plenty of fuel coming out of my injectors along with a really strong spark from my plugs. I did check my compression it is 30 psi on the front cylinder and 130 psi on the rear cylinder.

The front piston is worn enough wear I can see the top ring. The rear looks normal but compression is alittle lower than I would like it to be. I am an aircraft mechanic and have worked on small engines since a child so replacing the top end does not look very difficult at all. I would love to rebuild the whole engine but it only has 110 hours on it but it has been sitting since 05 and is around 14-15 years old.

I know it is better to rebuild the whole engine and replace everything unstead of putting a patch on it but it comes down to time to and money. I really do not want to spend more than the ski is worth. I am still wondering who makes the best rebuild kit for a top end though? Make sure you find out why that happened in the first place or you really will be wasting your money.

Check your oil injection system and make sure it is flowing. I see what you are saying with the top end.

Rebuilding the bottom end is a pain in the rear, but if you plan ok keeping it for several years, maybe worth the investment. If you want to do just the top, check over your crank the best you can while the cylinders are off. Shopsbt.com has top end kits for about $280 or so. Make sure when you have your cylinders bored, you have the raves cut to match or you will ruin your new top end. Doesn't matter if it got the crank or not. Its all going to need to be replaced.

Basically you have 3 options. Reman from SBT with a 1 or 2 year no fault warranty 2. Reman from Seadoo Engine Shop with a 1 or 2 year warranty. Cheaper than SBT, but I have not used them for a motor. I have used SBT and they honor there warranty.

Rebuild it yourself and save 'some' money. Top end kit with cylinder exchange, remanned crank, and a remanned counter balance shaft is $825 plus shipping and thats no rotary valve shaft. SBT rapes you on shipping IMO. Also you could save around $175 if you get your top end done by full bore. Complete SBT reman with a one year warranty is $945 plus shipping which will probably cost you around $200 or more. I'm thinking they hit me for around $170 when I bought a RFI and i'm in KY not Vegas.
