Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 User Guide
You can do any digitizing, downloading, designing and transferring of files and anything else you could possibly wish to do on a Designer 1 using up-to-date computers and software. Just use the SewWhat software package. If your Designer 1 is a floppy disk model all you need to do is plug an external floppy hard drive into the USB port on your computer. If you have a Designer 1 that has been converted to USB, then even easier, just save your designs on a USB stick. Everything will work very happily on any computer operating system from XP up to and including Windows 10. Having a Designer 1 doesn’t require us to remain in the Dark Ages.
You don’t need a computer geek and an old tower. I have been given my elderly mom’s Husqvarna Viking Designer I and Embroidery Unit by my dad. (My mom has dementia and is unable to sew anymore) I also have over 100 of the embroidery card in their original packaging. I don’t know anything about sewing, my mom was the seamstress. Unfortunately since my mom has dementia and can’t tell me anything about them. I’m looking to sell them all, and also a couple of her knitting machines, but I don’t have a clue where to sell them. Does anyone have any ideas?

If you have the SewWhatPro program you can save your designs in SHV format and there is an option to write them to a floppy via external (or internal) floppy drive. I had to format my floppies to get my machine to read the disks and I just save everything in one menu not renaming anything on the disc. I found that the more I tried to change things, the less likely my machine was to read the disk.

Just save them to the computer however you organize your designs and then use the “write to disk” function in SWP. It will open a window and you will choose “browse” and then go to where the designs are. Just drag them over to the window and then click “finish”. Then click Write to disk and It will go. I always get a message that it’s not responding but I just wait and it finishes and says it was successful. Then I put it in my machine and pray it works-ha! Good luck to you.
It’s such fun! I just LOVE my D1. I had my Designer 1 retrofitted with a USB port. You can take it to any reputable sewing machine dealer who can do this for you. Cost may be a little expensive ($500 to 1200 dollars) but then this gets rid of the floppy discs and you can use any USB designs.
You can download hundrends of embroidery designs from the internet for free or buy new ones and your machine becomes limitless. Also, regarding your designer how to book, just go to a Husqvarna dealer and they should be able to find you one or, you can try on Amazon or Ebay.
