Ockelbo

A Friend in England has an old Ockelbo 800 snowmobile, it's more like a tractor than a dragster, with twin tracks and one ski, he's had it from new in the late 70s. Suddenly, with this run-away global warming, it has a job to do again. Does anyone know if there is any parts support for Ockelbo machines? I'll see if I can get the Kohler engine model number from him tomorrow to chase that up too I found a Scandanavian snowmobile magazine, with the word Ockelbo in it, but understanding a little bit of Geordie is as close as I come to any Scandanavian language ability. Many thanks in anticipation Keith Last edited by Alpacca Fortyfive; at 03:04 AM. Ox, I think you may have something there.

Here are some detailed pictures I found of a later one. You're right, the later one is fitted with a Rotax.

My friends deffinitely has a Kohler 2 cyl 2 stroke, I'm not familliar with the skidoo to spot whether they are the same thing. The Ockelbo also had a low towing ratio and a reverse, from vague memory, the ski used to tip up in reverse Keith update: I had a look at dugs alpine site, looks like they are different things, but might still have some common parts.

This is going back a few years, but I know Kohler sold off all of their 2 cycle to another company. I cannot for the life of me remember who - I had there phone number long ago. It wouldn't hurt to give Kohler a call, I am pretty sure that is where I got the number way back when.

Be sure to ask for 'engine service'. Never mind - here is the info. In 1981 Growth Products, Inc.

In need of a serious gearbox repair after a crash the day before new years eve. I also have a dual track from Aktiv, but with one of the tracks broken off - the day before the gearbox crash. 2 stroke outboard motors.

I overhauled both engines last summer. My snowmobile experience the last ten years has been 90% workshop and 10% driving Google translate now works reasonable with Swedish: There is also another forum for owners of vintage snowmobiles.

Jihe, Thanks, that seems to work pretty well. My friend's 800 hadn't been used for about 15 years or more, Britain just didn't get sufficeint snow for him to need it. I don't like to think what the damp will have done to the cylinders and bearings, but he says it is working, and has ordered some new variator belts. I can sympathise with the workshop / riding balance My own experience with 2 strokes was from 94 and earlier when I used to fly a microlight with a Single carb, single spark Rotax 503. I think we spent 90% of the time at the airfield drinking tea, waiting for the wind to drop. One time when we did have good weather, there were 3 club members had engine failures in a week! Crank failures and small end rollers escaping seemed to be the two favourites, with twin carb engines burning a hole in one of the pistons coming in third place.

My only engine failure was an ignition coil that stopped working when it had been running for about 40 minutes, real fun to diagnose that We all deeply despised Rotax, but they were about the only option then. A lot of the microlight guys seem to use Jabiru 4 stroke engines now. Thanks again Keith.
